There is this assumption that all moms (well, most, maybe) are shopping addicts.

Dads also, noh!

It just depends on the stuff we’re talking about.

Last Tuesday, October 21, I attended a fabulous Rustan’s event called Beauty Addict. This is the second time they’re doing it, after a very successful first one last year. It was held at The Beauty Source, which is the ground floor of Rustan’s Makati, where all the makeup, skincare, and fragrance counters are located, and it was lotsa fun.

It’s a beauty fair and everyone there — beauty editors and writers, models, celebs — clearly enjoyed the whole event.

I did, too.

There were free services. Bobbi Brown offered complimentary brow service, La Mer gave free hand and arm indulgence treatments, OPI Deborah Lippmann had a nail station, Dermalogica gave speed mapping skin analysis, Phyto Paris/Dessange Paris/John Allan’s offered hair makeovers, Max Factor gave away free makeovers.

There were fragrance bars from Hierbas de Ibiza, Rance, Monotheme, Annick Goutal, Diptyque, and Acca Kappa.

There were freebies everywhere. PCI Fragrances gave away free vials and miniatures, ADF did samplings for DKNY MYNY and Tory Burch fragrance, Estee Lauder gave free touch-ups and Modern Muse vials, Shu Uemura gave trial size samples of Whitefficient UVUB Mousse, Mario Badescu gave away pouches with samples.

Brands like D&G, Lacoste, Chanel, Lancome, Style Aromatherapy, Clinique, Clarins, Benefit, Sisley Paris, Perricone MD, Laura Mercier, NARS, Carolina Herrera, Baylis & Harding England, Campagnie de Provence, Heathcote & Ivory, Lift Argan had games, contests, and other gimmicks.

Food and drinks overflowed, too. Apart from those sponsored by Belvedere and the pastries care of Guerlain, Bvlgari, Calvin Klein, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Ferragamo, Davidoff, Montblanc, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Narciso, Elie Saab, Lanvin, and Repetto, La Prairie served champagne and caviar (waiter was cute), Murad offered fruit kebabs, Stila gave away cupcakes, T. LeClerc and MAC had French macarons, L’Occitane gave away beautiful cotton candy, and Happy Skin served cupcakes and ice cream for everyone.

I love that they had a goodwill activity called Signed With Love. There were mirrored freedom walls where people could sign using lipstick; each note was equivalent to a P300-pledge for the ICANServe Foundation.

The event was also the launch of the Rustan’s Beauty Addict Card, which entitles holders to exclusive discounts, free products and spa services. Available for only P299 or get it for free if you purchase at least P2,500 worth of products at the cosmetics department, the Beauty Addict Card also gives you one entry for this season’s raffle. Cool prizes include a two-night stay for two at The Peninsula New York, round trip tickets to Hong Kong, a two-night stay for two at The Peninsula Manila.

With all the great products and brands that they carry, shopping in Rustan’s can definitely be addicting. It can be made more fun and rewarding with their Beauty Addict Card, too.

Okay, time to start my Christmas shopping.
