I HATE HOW STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE HAS A LOT OF FRIENDS

I rarely buy Sadako toys.

Why should I when she gets more than enough from relatives and friends during Christmas, her birthday, or even when there’s no occasion?

Why should I when she has an iPad Mini? This heaven-sent gadget is equivalent to 1,000 toys. There are times when I feel as if Sadako could play with the thing the whole day.

A couple of weeks ago, Sadako was in Toy Kingdom with her mom when she asked for a toy. This rarely happens so Honeybun said yes. Strangely, Sadako picked an unexpected toy: a Strawberry Shortcake doll. It’s strange because she’s never encountered Strawberry Shortcake before. But since she rarely asks for toys, Honeybun said yes (of course, I had to pay Honeybun for making abono).

A couple of days after, when we went home to the south and visited relatives, my dad “bought” Sadako another doll (I made abono but he forgot to pay me): Cherry Jam, Strawberry Shortcake’s friend. She was so happy I decided to buy her another doll — Lemon Meringue (yes, another friend of Strawberry Shortcake) — and gave it to her the next day.

So that’s happiness times three so far. If you’re a parent, you know how priceless it is to see your child smiling and saying wow and jumping and clapping her hands. I’ve seen this thrice lately, thanks to the dolls, and I wanted to see it again so I bought her Blueberry Muffin (yet another friend of Strawberry Shortcake — the last member of their fruity posse) awhile ago.

As expected, Sadako’s reaction was priceless. I think she kind of knew that my ubong was Blueberry Muffin the moment she saw the Toy Kingdom gift bag so she excitedly tore the wrapper and let out a series of wows when she finally confirmed it was indeed Blueberry Muffin, the last member of the fruity posse.

Priceless. So priceless I forgot I just cashed out P700. So priceless I forgot I have spent P2,800 on four dolls in a span of about two weeks.

Oh, the things that we do for our kids! And just when I thought I was done buying dolls for Sadako, She reminded me awhile ago that Strawberry Shortcake still has two more friends: Raspberry Torte and Orange Blossom.

I hope Strawberry Shortcake doesn’t have any more friends.
