BURP, THANKS TO BRASAS AND BOROUGH

Bad: I haven’t lost all the holiday weight yet.

Worse: I continue to eat like it’s the holidays.

Just look at what I had for lunch.

Brasas’ Patacones, which are better than BJs. According to the menu, they’re plantain chips with smoked pulled pork, Monetrey Jack cheese, and pico de gallo. One order is composed of five pieces. I think I can finish 15 pieces.

Caldo de Costillas, which sadly isn’t as good as BJs. It sounds pretty impressive when you read the description from the menu (slow-cooked beef short ribs, carrots, potatoes, beef broth, served with rice pilaf), but it’s just like nilaga or something.

I also drank a lot today: Brasas’ Guarapo (sugarcane juice, mint, lime) which isn’t for everyone – but it is for me, and their Latin Iced Tea (passionfruit-infused tea, lime, honey), which is forgettable. I also had their Brasacolada (ripe mango, pineapple, strawberry, and coconut milk), which was so good it was gone in 60 seconds. And, yes, I forgot to take a photo of it.

For dinner, I went to Borough.

I tried their Muniere (thin-crust pizza, mozzarella cheese, white sauce, anchovies, capers, red inions, dill, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil), which was... okay (my descriptive skills are so good I can be EIC of a food magazine, don’t you agree?).

I also tasted their Classic New York Lasagna (lasagna noodles layered with fresh ricotta cheese, homemade tomato sauce, ground beef and sausage, covered in gooey, melted mozzarella cheese), which after a couple of bites I realized is not my favorite lasagna on earth.

Their Buffalo Chicken Wings, however, made me moan with every bite. The accompanying blue cheese dip isn’t the best but I still got to eat a lot, so, yeah, them wings were pretty good.

And because every Borough visit isn’t complete without Milk and Cookies, I asked for them, of course. I will never get tired of the smooth and creamy milk and the assortment of chewy cookies.

Highlight of the day? A burning car in the middle of EDSA.
